7 SCARY AND FUN BLENDED FAMILY ACTIVITES FOR OCTOBER

October 17, 2020

SORRY FOR THE LATE POST! The first couple weeks of this month have been chaotic! But I won’t waste anymore of your time so let’s get to it!

So I know the title implies this article is more Fall based but it’s really all about October! October…my favorite month and I am sure I’m not alone. No matter where you live, October is just so damn pleasant! Filled with orange and red leaves, beautiful weather,  Halloween decorations, and pumpkin everything; just hearing the word “October” gets my endorphins pumping!

Everyone knows that being in a blended family (especially in the early stages) comes with it’s fair share of stress so maybe this can alleviate some of that for the time being.

Here’s a  quick list of things to do in this awesome month that will hopefully bring you and your blended family some family fun and create a few life long memories. This list actually applies to all families so read ahead and enjoy!

7 FAMILY FUN ACTIVITIES

#1 Enjoy everything pumpkin!

First, take the kids or family to Starbucks and sip and nibble on a pumpkin latte or pumpkin scone! (this can get a little pricey, we personally narrowed our visits to one day a week…  “Starbucks Friday.”

Next, make a pumpkin pie and if you don’t know how,  learn together and make it as a family! For help with a delicious recipe click here!

My next MUST-DO is carve a pumpkin! I look forward to this all year, not only is it creative and fun for the whole fam but you can also get a snack out of it! Roasting pumpkin seeds is quite necessary! Also, this can become one of your most loved family traditions! Not sure how to do this or need to know what temp. to set the oven? Click here!

#2 Haunted houses!

Treat this one on a case by case basis. Some like this more than others, however If it is age appropriate and the parent is fine with it then this could be great!. Nothing like a great scare! In Las Vegas, we used to love going to my favorite haunted house…Fright Dome!!!

Let me reiterate, make sure the kids are at an appropriate age before you traumatize them! MUHAHAHAHA!!!

#3 Decorate the house inside and out if you can!

This is such a fun thing to do together as a family! You can put special Halloween towels out or a runner on the table. Outside is an open casket oops I mean canvas. From skeleton bones to grave sites to spiderwebs to inflatable goblins; the possibilities are endless. This is always a favorite activity for us as a family. Keep in mind, Halloween decorations can cost an arm and a leg I suggest you check out your local $1 store for great finds and also go Halloween shopping after every Halloween to find the best sales!

#4 Check out the neighborhood decorations!

Grab some hot chocolate and go for an evening walk or car ride to look at other homes in the neighborhood! Not only is this important family bonding time and a great opportunity to catch up but also a “feel good” activity that can serve as an inspiration for you as you decorate!

#5 Good ol Fashioned Pumpkin Patch or Corn Maze!

Most cities have these attractions for kiddos of all ages! Some pumpkin patches have bouncy houses or slides or other cool rides! Some offer the classic caramel apples and other yummy Halloween treats! I suppose we can say goodbye to apple bobbing contests due to COVID but to be honest I was kind of grossed out by those before! Anyone with me? Pumpkin patches and corn mazes is a guaranteed fun time for the fam!

#6 Watch scary movies all month long!

Again if this age appropriate please do this with your loved ones. If you have toddlers, Scooby Doo is always a good choice. Adjust the scariness level to fit the needs of your family!

#7 Build your own haunted house for Halloween!

If you are really feeling ambitious, this could be the best time ever!!! Turn your garage (if it’s not jam packed with stuff you’ll likely never use again..eh hem…hoarder) into the scariest place in the neighborhood! Add sound effects, strobe lights, fog machines, and make sure a couple of you are willing to dress up and create that “jump” factor! Remember to hit up your  local dollar store and even goodwill for some great finds! This will be something your family will enjoy and can talk about for years to come! Hey and even your neighbors will get a kick out of it!

There ya go! 7 fun activities that are sure to bring your family even closer! Please enjoy the rest of this month and be safe! If you have any suggestions for me please find me on Instagram, Facebook , or email me at laundryismylife2020@gmail.com
