Here we go again! Another stressful event that should be, well, for most parents it’s a happy time because let’s face it …get out of here kid, you’re driving me crazy! You’re spending all my money and eating all my food! And you know what else!? Your listening skills are about as good as your father’s! Oh boy, your teacher is going to crack that whip and when she does…. I’ll be right here to comfort you and later slash your teacher’s tires-JUST KIDDING MS. JOHNSON!

Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yes, back to school. As a step mom, where do we go from here?? Do we buy all the school supplies and step on BM’s (Bio Mom)toes?? Do we get nothing and then are later accused of not caring about our stepkids???

In this article I’m going to tell you what has worked in my home and then I’m going to give you my list of Amazon must- haves that no matter what the situation, will bring happiness to all and the best news, no toesies will be red from being trampled on!!

If you are in a positive relationship with the BM, great! Then you can just ask her if she needs any help with grabbing any supplies. If she’s a mentally healthy BM, doing this in private would probably be fine. If you talk to the BM but she’s a little toxic and likes to twist words and is a bit manipulative and all that fun stuff that adds so much spice to your life as well as an occasional ulcer then I would ask this when one of your stepkids are talking to her on the phone and people are around so there are witnesses that you put in your best effort! This might sound a little childish but I promise you if you are in this type of relationship with the BM you will completely get it!

Now, if you are not on speaking terms with the BM and the kids are young, let your partner or husband handle that! If the kids are older I would just ask them before going to the store, “Can I pick up anything for school for you?” Maybe a flask? A backpack? Some new pencils or pens that you saw?? If they say no thank you my mom is getting it, then great! You’re stepkids are old enough to know that at least you care!
